Lions Club of Weston super Mare, is part of an international organisation established in 1917 which is committed to providing care in the community through service and fundraising. Lions Clubs in the UK have raised approximately £88 million each year and locally in Weston super Mare about £45,000.
All the members of the Weston Lions Club are volunteers whose ages range from 26 to 80 and are from Weston super Mare and surrounding villages. The Club has recently welcomed women members and has begun to expand their fundraising ideas to move with the modern times, but always keeping the essence of the Club’s service at heart.
Whilst being part of a global organisation our Club focuses on looking after the environment and donating locally. Contributing to charity groups, helping individuals in need, and donating to branches of associations like the Samaritans, RNLI, Diabetes UK and organisations like Weston Hospice to name but a few.
Lions Clubs International has some 1.3 Million members worldwide in 209 different countries. Each Club is involved in local, national and international issues, dedicated to eliminating preventable and reversible blindness worldwide, as well as providing initial and long-term aid for international disasters through contributions to Lions Clubs International Foundation.
Lions Clubs are also encouraged to support a variety of dedicated programmes such as;
Medic Alert – Diabetes – Eye Health – Message in a Bottle – Environment – Special Olympics – Youth Exchange – Young Ambassador – Youth Organisations – Street Children and many more.
As well as providing for the needs of the elderly and vulnerable
Lions also keenly support young people in their endeavors through GO Kids GO and contributions to local schools – they are the future after all!
